Who’s Bad: Nawaz to play businessman with shades of grey in 'Genius'

After a spate of rather negative news, some work-related updates on the Nawazuddin Siddiqui front…! The actor has been signed up for Anil Sharma’s romantic thriller Genius, which will see Sharma’s son, Utkarsh making his debut. Nawaz will essay a character named MRS, who becomes a successful businessman after considerable struggle. What’s more, both he and Utkarsh play characters with shades of grey.

Touted to be called Genius, the film marks Anil Sharma’s return to direction after five years. Singh Saab The Great, starring Sunny Deol, had been his last film in 2013.

Sharma is understandably thrilled about having the brilliant Nawaz on board. He shares, “I wanted somebody who could play the character brilliantly so I approached Nawaz. While shooting, he added nuances and portrayed the character with finesse. We had been in talks to cast Nawaz for a long time. After several telephonic conversations, we met and he liked the script.”

Incidentally, Nawaz joined the cast well after the film had begun shooting. In fact, Sharma and he met when the film was being shot in October 2017. “I had wrapped up the 30-day first schedule in Mathura and Vrindavan when we met. He came on board and we were shooting his portions by November-end, wrapping up the film in February after shooting with Nawaz in Mumbai, Indore, Maheshwar and Mauritius.”

Sharma has been carefully nurturing the project, which launches his son. Speaking about the film, he reveals that he wanted to make something that was relevant to the current times. In fact, it took him two years to develop the script. “I wanted to make a film with young actors as I am now focused on films that are a bit different from the kind I have made before. This one is a complete entertainer,” he informs.

Given Nawaz’s flair, we can well believe that!
