‘The most hardworking’ in October; Meet Shiuli a.k.a Banita Sandhu

This year October comes in April. The month has already begun and it’s just a few days until Shoojit Sircar’s intriguing October hits the big screens. While we have already met the weird, zoned out, confused Dan, it is finally time to meet the life and suspense of Shoojit’s show – Shiuli!

The levels of curiosities have been only piquing since we first saw the girl with a pretty smile pick up the little flowers and breathe in their beauty. Today, after much wait we meet her. Shiuli, played by Banita Sandhu, was destined to play the role. The director finalized her for the part even before the script was completed.

It was during an ad shoot that the director was directing where he stumbled upon his October actress. In that instance he was sure, he had found his Shiuli. Speaking about Banita, he said, “I wanted a girl who will look like Shiuli… who will look a little south Indian… and also whose eyes speak a lot.”

While Shoojit seems to have found exactly what he was looking for, the producers seem to be equally happy and proud. Producer Ronnie Lahiri said, “It’s an important role. For me, it is one the best debut”. The train of praises just doesn’t stop. Her troubled hero, Dan played by Varun also had quite some compliments to shower on this debutante. He shared, “She is a selfless actor, so giving… The type of work she has put in for a person is unbelievable.”

Banita, who hails from the United Kingdom, has definitely gone through a lot to pick up the language. In an interview, she shared, “The film was offered to me a year before it was shot. So I hired a Hindi tutor. I was learning the language along with my university classes. Learning a language like Hindi when you live in London and people around you speak in English, it is very hard to pick it up.” Shoojit even went as far as conducting video calls for her to pick up the language.
