Sholay actor Raj Kishore passes away

The 85-year-old veteran had acted in many hits like Padosan, Deewar and Karan Arjun
Even as Asrani, as the ‘Angrez zamane ka jailer’ in Sholay stole the scene in the prison sequence, there was no missing the actor who stood next to Amitabh Bachchan. With his coy smiles and limp wrist, actor Raj Kishore made his little cameo memorable in his own way.

A veteran of several films, including Padosan, Deewar, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Ram Aur Shyam, Bombay To Goa, Karan Arjun and others, Raj Kishore passed away aged 85. He reportedly succumbed to a heart attack.

His demise, in the wee hours of Friday morning, at his Mumbai residence was followed by his funeral at the Aarey Crematorium at around 10:30 am.

IMDb lists no less than 94 film appearances of Raj Kishore. His last onscreen appearance was as a publisher in Mr and Mrs Khiladi in 1997. Patanga (1949) appears as his first film.
Raj Kishore essayed a host of roles over the decades, playing everything from a bartender in Rakhwala to a havildar in Preetam, a palm reader in Mela and a robber in Bhai-Bhai. A character artiste, he was one of the countless faces who contributed to filling the Hindi film screen in his own way.
