Buckle up: Salman Khan’s cop drama series will air this May

Just a few days ago he was incarcerated in the Jodhpur Central Jail, sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in the blackbuck case. Out now on bail, his first TV production on the on and off-duty lives of cops will begin airing next month. Such is the life of Salman Khan!

News has been coming in since a while now about Salman’s TV series for Sony, which focuses on Mumbai cops. The series already began shooting a few weeks ago at a Mumbai studio. It is helmed by Mahesh Limaye, the National Award-winning director of the 2014 Marathi film Yellow, which had been produced by Riteish Deshmukh. Mahesh, incidentally, has worked with Salman in the past as a cinematographer on Dabangg and Dabangg 2. The script of the yet-untitled show has been written by Sridhar Raghavan, who has written films like Rohan Sippy’s Bluffmaster and Rajkumar Santoshi’s Khakee, among others.

With a great combo at the helm of the project, the cop drama will feature actor Mukul Dev, who was last seen in the 21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897, play the lead. Essaying the female lead is Pooja Gor, best known for her soap ‘Mann Ki Awaaz’. The series will feature fictionalized accounts of real-life stories of police personnel and is bound to be an insightful and gripping watch.

Incidentally, Salman had been supposed to take the plunge into television production with a show based on the exploits of the legendary wrestler Gama Pehelwan. The serial was touted to star Salman’s younger brother Sohail Khan in the lead, with Punit Issar as director.

While the serial on the Great Gama is still on the anvil, it will most likely begin shooting towards the end of the year. Salman himself returns to the small screen as the host of the reality game-show ‘Dus Ka Dum’, this June.
