Shahid Kapoor had signed his first film Batti Gul Meter Chalu since the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat. However, the film which was helmed by Shree Narayan Singh is facing some internal trouble due to monetary issues. Amidst this tussle, Shahid has gone ahead and signed director Raja Krishna Menon’s next directorial venture. The Airlift and Chef director’s film is based on a real-life story and the shooting would start from the year-end.
As divulged by sources, the film will be primarily shot in India with only one shooting schedule abroad, although the locations have not been finalized yet. The source said, “Shahid and Raja have been planning to work together for a while now. They had met after the release of Udta Punjab back in June 2016 and had kept in touch, looking for a project to collaborate on. Both agreed on a script that Raja had been working on.”

Shahid and Raja Krishna Menon will be collaborating for the first time on this feature film whose title has not been revealed yet. “Yes, Shahid and I are very keen to do our next film together. We have been working on an idea that we are both excited about and it will be a film based on a true story," confirmed the director to a leading daily.
Shahid was last seen on screen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat opposite Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The film was mired in controversies and amid huge outrage was released in theatres. However, the film went on to do a roaring business at the box office and all the lead characters were appreciated for their performances.
While Ranveer and Deepika have gone ahead and signed a few films, Shahid has not been that lucky. His Batti Gul Meter Chalu is right now put while his speculated venture with Imtiaz Ali has also been put on the backburner by the producers who are not convinced with the experimental venture.
