Yami Gautam’s younger sister Surilie Jasraj Singh who made her Punjabi film debut with late comedian-actor Jaspal Bhatti in Power Cut (2012) will soon be making her debut in Bollywood with Rajkumar Santoshi’s yet-untitled film on the Battle of Saragarhi which also features Randeep Hooda as Havildar Ishar Singh. She will start shooting for the movie in May.

Not to get confused with Akshay Kumar film Kesari which is also based on the Battle of Saragarhi, Surilie’s movie is a different one albeit on the same topic. She was reported as saying to a leading daily, “I’d met Raj sir last year when he narrated the script and I fell in love with it. I’m playing Havildar Ishar Singh’s wife, Jiwani. It’s a character that reflects strength and confidence. Being launched by Raj sir is a dream come true.” She explained that she had waited patiently for a year for the film to start off. She said, “I spent the time prepping for my launch. We’ll also be working on my dialogue delivery, body language as we look at references for the perfect look as well. I’ve been reading up about the character online for prep too.”

It took Surilie six years for her launch in Bollywood and the reason behind the delay is not a trivial one. On being asked about it she said, “During the Power Cut promotions, we met with an accident in which we lost Jaspal sir (Surilie is married to Bhatti’s son, Jasraj Singh Bhatti) while I was bed-ridden for a while and it took me some time to recover. I was also studying and after completing BA, I did my post-grad from a media school in Mumbai. But I was working in short films too and I’ve finally got my first Hindi film. There’s no looking back now.”
