Soorma on the other hand is based on the life of hockey player Sandeep Singh. The movie is directed by Shaad Ali and produced by Sony Pictures Networks India, The CS Films.
The movie however, will now clash with the Anil Kapoor- Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajkummar Rao starrer Fanne Khan, which was supposed to hit the screens during Eid. This movie was postponed to avoid a clash with the Salman Khan starrer Race 3. However, it now seems that Soorma and Fanne Khan will have to fight it out in the box office.
Aishwarya's Fanne Khan is directed by debutante Atul Manjrekar and produced by Arjun N.Kapoor, Prernaa Arora, Bhushan Kumar and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.
Aishwarya had said about her role in the movie, "I am a chapter in the film, not the fulcrum. There are other talents in the story and you will see why I chose to do the film once it releases."
Diljit had said about Soorma, "The producers approached me for this film. At first, I thought I should not be a part of Soorma. I said no to them two-three times. But then I thought they are big people, so I should go to their office and say no otherwise they will feel that I am being arrogant. Then I went to their office and said, ‘Brother you can make me do any film, but not on hockey’. But, till that time I didn’t know the story of Soorma.
