Amitabh Bachchan advises short run for KBC

Fans of the popular quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, here’s good news for you. The 10th edition of the series helmed by the inimitable Amitabh Bachchan was supposed to start in September. However, now there is news that ‘KBC’ could start by July itself. The veteran superstar and show host revealed that the detailing and groundwork for the show has begun. “It is a lengthy process,” he says, adding, “The auditions and research [about every contestant] can take several months to finish. We begin work around July or August.”

It will be recalled that the last season had done exceedingly well as far as TRPs go. However, it had experienced a short run time of 10 weeks. In Bachchan’s thinking, he is hoping that the makers keep the run time of Season 10 short as well. He affirms, “The TRPs [for season nine] were heartening. I hope the show sticks to its short run this year too. When the series is a success, the makers become keen to savour it. In turn, they tend to stretch the show. But I hope Siddharth [Basu, producer] and the channel do not harbour similar intentions this time. When you increase the runtime, the show takes a hit.”

KBC had become a national sensation in 2000 when it first appeared on the Indian television screen. The Q&A gameshow had given Amitabh Bachchan’s career a huge boost. It had also started the trend of big screen stars making an exodus to the small screen, which was now no longer looked down upon.

Last year, Bachchan had thanked its team and audience for making it "another historic event in the history of the show". "KBC draws to an end," he had posted on his blog. He had also tweeted about the same writing, "…Thank you all for making this another historic event in the history of the show. Seventeen years ago, it created history and you have made it happen again. That is no small task. The show is No. 1 in its rankings and has brought the channel Sony to No. 1 position," he added.

Time to repeat the feat!
