Bharat: Ali Abbas Zafar zeroes down Punjab to shoot partition scenes for Salman-Priyanka film

Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra will be coming together on screen after a huge gap of 10 years in Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bharat which is an adaptation of the Korean film, Ode to my Father. The period drama will start shooting from next month and Zafar recently posted a picture of a signboard on his social media accounts that read, Islamabad 322, Lahore 22 and Indo-Pak border 2 (km). Zafar, right now is on a recce searching for probable locations to shoot the film, and looks like he has zeroed down Punjab for the shoot.

The film will go on floors next month and Salman will be shooting in Punjab for the Partition scenes. Reportedly, the director has scouted 45 villages in the interior of the state for a 15-day shooting schedule which will be used to recreate this historic but painful event in the history of India and Pakistan. A source told a leading daily, “The idea is to make the most significant event of our country extremely real. The set will transport the audiences to the times of the Partition. Ali and his team went scouting in 45 villages in Punjab to lock the exact location where Salman will film these scenes. Kila Raipur, Gujjarwal, Bilga and Ghungrana are some of the villages where they have done a recce so far. He is yet to decide on the village that will be the starting point of Bharat’s Punjab schedule.”

Bharat is a period drama and shows the journey of India through the eyes of its central protagonists. The film starts in 1940s and spans over 70 years. Salman’s character will be instrumental in showcasing the passage of time and he will be sporting five different looks in the film according to the era that he will depict.

Priyanka has been looking forward to reuniting with Salman and doing Zafar’s film as she has been out of the Bollywood circuit for a couple of years now. In an interview she spoke about the film and said, “I’m looking forward to working with Salman and Ali after a considerable time. I’ve learnt a lot from them during our previous collaborations and I am excited to see what this one has to offer. I’m also looking forward to working with Atul, Alvira and the entire team. To all my well-wishers who have been patient and supportive, thank you for your constant support and I’ll see you at the movies.” Bharat is eyeing a 2019 Eid release.
