Sonam Kapoor's Mehendi ceremony: A detailed account of the revelry, from food to music to decor

Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor’s Juhu residence buzzed with celebrities and festivities on Sunday as his daughter and actress Sonam Kapoor’s wedding revelry kick started with a private mehendi ceremony. Close friends and family members thronged the house which was adorned by lights and soaked in the festive fervour. Sonam and her groom-to-be, Delhi-based businessman Anand Ahuja, looked colour co-ordinated in pastels. While Bollywood's fashionista Sonam looked radiant in a peach and grey ethnic outfit with statement jewellery as she sat down to get intricate henna designs done on her hands, Anand looked suave in a salmon sherwani.

Theme:

The evening of celebration was marked by a particular theme – shades of white. And thus, most of the attendees were seen wearing white, subtle cream or a combination ensemble at the mehendi function.

Décor:

Every nook and corner of the house was lit up by the fragrance of the yellow marigold flowers. Each piece of furniture was covered in white and golden, including the cushion covers.

Food:

Thanks to Sonam’s darling friends, or else who would have saved the hungry bride and bridesmaids? Besties Shehla Khan, Masaba Gupta were seen indulging in some tasty savoury and also were snapped feeing their friends who were getting heena applied on their palms. The menu ranged from spicy chaat to mini pizza to exotic cocktails and of course, drinks.

Music:

It would be stupid to not expect any of Sonam’s songs play at the merrymaking party! Designer Kunal Rawal danced to his heart’s content at Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai while sister Rhea Kapoor showcased her original Punjabi swag on Gori Naal Ishq Meetha and then there were Samyukta Nair and Arpita Mehta grooving to Bom Diggy Diggy.

Dresscode:

Sonam's sibling Rhea was dressed in a subtle cream ensemble, brother Harshvardhan was in a white kurta pyjama teamed with a grey Nehru jacket, and father Anil chose an all-white ethnic outfit. It was Arjun Kapoor and uncle Sanjay Kapoor, who looked bright in an orange and red kurta respectively. Sonam’s private mehendi ceremony also marked the attendance of cousins Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor and Shanaya Kapoor but only Janhvi kept up with the white theme. Janhvi and Khushi chose Manish Malhotra ensembles for the pre-wedding ceremony. Also in attendance were cousins Anshula Kapoor and Mohit Marwah opting for bright colors.

Among Bollywood celebrities, there were Siddhanth Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, and filmmaker Karan Johar. KJo and Rani looked ravishing in their respective white outfits.

Sonam and Anand will get married on Tuesday in a traditional Sikh ceremony. However, a formal 'mehendi' and 'sangeet' function will take place on Monday evening. The Kapoors shall host their guests to an ‘evening of dance and music’ to celebrate Sonam and Anand on the evening of May 8, 2018.
