You can’t draw parallels between chalk and cheese and Alia Bhatt is struggling to compare her co-stars of Gully Boy and Brahmastra respectively.
The young actress states,“I always get stuck when I have to compare two co-stars,...They used to ask me this question all the time – Varun or Arjun? Varun or Sid? But they’re very different. I can’t compare the two. Ranveer is like totally energetic and crazy and mad. Gets into the character right before the take and it’s a moment and everything has to stop. It’s really serious like not serious in a bad way but it’s charged. Ranbir is like, ‘Take’… whatever, easy, nonchalant. So they are very different, I can’t compare them.”
While both these co-stars of hers are coming off films that have an incredible transformation, is going deep into the character something she enjoys as well? Surprisingly, she doesn’t… “During the making of the film, if it happens by chance, I enjoy it. But I’m not one of those who believes that I need to get into the character before I go on set. I don’t want to really methodize the whole process because I feel that you can do all your preparation that you need to for a part but eventually what works in front of the camera is a feeling… feeling it.”
Speaking about playing a real-life character, and balancing it with her own artistic sensibilities, she shares, “Shooting for Raazi for 48 days straight, because we had a crunch of time and budget and we had to make the film in a certain number of days, we were shooting for 15 hours a day. We were shooting 7 – 9 scenes a day, minimum. The only time I was getting to be myself was when I went home to shower and eat. So by default, I was living this character Sehmat for 48 days. And I didn’t have the time to get out of it.” Otherwise, she prefers to keep herself and her characters separate off the camera.
Admirable, considering the impact she still makes with her performances!
