Sonam - Anand's Mehendi and Sangeet ceremony was high on stars, Punjabi swag and chill vibes

Saturday evening saw Bollywood celebrities throng to Anil Kapoor’s Juhu bungalow as his daughter and actress Sonam Kapoor’s wedding revelry commenced with a private Mehendi function. By Sunday evening, the party had moved to the starlet’s plush apartment in Mumbai’s BKC, which doubled up as the venue for a Mehendi and Sangeet celebration for the fraternity friends. The celebration, of course, high on attendance of stars twinkling in their traditional best, took place in an exquisitely decorated banquet hall of Sonam’s residential society - Sunteck Signature Island. The bride-to-be was elegance personified as she chose to be in sync with the 'shades of white' dress code for her sangeet ceremony here on Monday evening, a day before her wedding to Delhi-based businessman Anand Ahuja.

THEME:

The Kapoors are known to host some of the craziest parties in the industry, and thus, when it came to the first wedding in the Khaadaan, they left no stone unturned to make it a memorable one. The fun-filled evening was set up in accordance with a particular theme – shades of white.

The woman of the hour, Sonam, wore a traditional dress that featured a heavily-embroidered gold blouse and ivory-gold lehena. She matched the dress with traditional jewellery -- jadau neckpiece, maang-tika and jhumkas. Her hair was neatly done up in a long braid and adorned with a white garland. Groom-to-be Anand Ahuja matched with his ladylove in a subtle cream and white traditional suit and accessorized the look with a brooch.

Several celebrities and close friends turned up at the function dressed in different shades of white.

DÉCOR:

If it’s Sonam, it has to be classy. The Kapoors had the venue decorated with white flowers including mogra, and beautiful lights. Besides, scented Jo Malone candles were lit up to set the tone for an exquisite evening, to celebrate love. Pieces of furniture, including the sofas were placed covered with white tapestry and cover for the guests.

MUSIC:

What’s a Punjabi wedding without Sukhbir’s songs? And guess what folks, if you are a Kapoor, you have the popular Punjabi singer performing live for you in the house! Post Mehendi application, Sukhbir had guests and celebrities grooving to his tunes including Sonam and Anand who danced to their heart’s content to songs including Ishq Tera Tadpaave. Parents Anil and Sunita Kapoor danced to songs Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai and London Thumakda. Cousin Arjun burned the floor with his dancing partner Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline.

Sonam’s close friend and co-star of Veere Di Wedding Swara Bhasker flaunted a beautiful Manish Malhotra-designed white and golden lehenga, while the actress’ BFF Jacqueline Fernandez opted for a breezy, summery floral wear. Father Anil Kapoor and brother Harshvardhan Kapoor looked dapper in white kurta pyjamas.

Anshula Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor brought their A-game to the ceremony, matching their apparels with the theme. Mohit Marwah with wife Antara, uncle Sanjay Kapoor and Bonny Kapoor, friends like Masaba Gupta, Shilpa Shetty, Karan Johar, Rani Mukherji, veteran actress Rekha and designer Kunal Rawal were also present.

Sonam and Anand are to tie the knot on Tuesday at 11 a.m. The reception and wedding party will take place at The Leela in the evening.
