Karwaan of Hope: Irrfan’s tweet after a silence of two months is heartening

There has been a long and mysterious silence from Irrfan Khan’s end. It was two months ago that the actor had shared via Twitter that he had been diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour. Reportedly undergoing treatment for cancer in the UK, Irrfan has returned to Twitter to wish the team of his upcoming release, Karwaan.

In his tweet, he shows his usual poetic streak by commenting that every fresh start has an innocence that is lost with experience. He also points out that there were two karwaans or mass journeys that began with this film – his personal one and that of the film itself.

Irrfan’s message comes as a positive sign that the actor is battling his illness fairly well. Last month, rumours were rife that Irrfan was struggling with his illness and that his health was deteriorating.

Speculation got so intense that his spokesperson had to issue a statement which read, “This latest round of news being spread through social media in the last few days about Irrfan’s health is absolutely false and there’s no truth to it whatsoever. We as his family and friends again request the members of the media to continue their support and the prayers that have come Irrfan’s way. However, it’s not right to spread rumours through mediums of social media without fact check or any official validation. In the meanwhile once again we request everyone to refrain from picking up social media statuses as affirmative developments on someone’s health.”

Irrfan Khan, who is considered one of India’s finest actors and has acted in more than 100 films, had been refreshingly upfront when revealing his cancer diagnosis.

His light-hearted comedy Karwaan, which releases August 10, also sees the debut of Malayalam heartthrob Dulquer Salmaan and Marathi actor Mithila Palkar.
