Kangana Ranaut laughs at Jim Sarbh's 'rape joke'; Twitter reacts

At an after-party at the 71st Cannes Film Festival, Jim Sarbh, Kangana Ranaut got together with friends. However, it was a particular video clip which surfaced earlier late Thursday has social media fuming over the two actors.

In the video, Jim is heard saying, “I’d rather be raped by 12 prostitutes than touch alcohol and the Punjabi says ‘Me too, I didn’t know that was an option.” Kangana cracks up at the 'joke' along with the rest of the people in attendance.

Twitterati's immediately bashed the actors for their lack of understanding. While one user wrote, “Rape is not a joke. If you tell or laugh at jokes about rape you are a part of the problem,” another said, “Kangana laughs as Jim Sarbh jokes about rape at a Cannes event. Interesting thing was she once bashed popular star for using this word “Rape” and called that insensitive.”

Jim, after receiving backlash released a statement clarifying his actions. He said:

“It is unfortunate that my comments were taken out of context. I do not now nor have I ever condoned any form of sexual violence. This has been picked out of context without a prelude where I am actually enacting parts of a play which is a dark satire.”

The actors were attending an event on the sidelines of the 71st Cannes Film Festival as brand ambassadors of a liquor brand.

In 2016, Kangana had called out Salman Khan for his 'rape' comment during promotions for Sultan. She had said, "We all agree that it's a horrible thing to say, something that is extremely insensitive ... But let's not encourage that mentality where we want to point fingers at each other and want to feel greater by running people down by trolling them... So, like what Salim uncle says is right, that we are all sorry about it. It's not about an individual. We all collectively feel sorry for that thought process."
