The best of the Indian cinema - Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar and Dibakar Banerjee - each carrying a unique style of storytelling have come together for the anthology 'Lust Stories', which will be released on Netflix next month. The digital platform has released the trailer of four short films, and while we agree that love stories have been done to death, this one deems to have deviated from the path. 'Lust Stories' breaks ground and even tears the envelope at times.
Indian cinema has, for decades now, shunned the female standpoint in a conversation about love and sex. And for once, when Alankrita Shrivastava (director of Lipstick Under My Burkha) did attempt to shed some light the ordeals of a femal in a relationship, unsurprisingly, the CBFC tried to ban the agenda and not clear the film for a release altogether. Saving the trouble of censorship, 'Lust Stories' will have a web-only release, on Netflix. The short stories will feature actors including Sanjay Kapoor, Radhika Apte, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani.

These titillating but vividly different tales carry an underlying theme of lust, as seen and experienced, by four strong female characters. The tone is set from the very first scene and dialogue mouthed by Radhika Apte - You don't hurt the people you love. It is not everyday we see any filmmaker attempting to view a relationship, or sexual desires from a female perspective and that is where 'Lust Stories' breaks the glass ceiling. Because honestly, a heroine can do more than just add glamour and oomph to a screen. Sample this trailer to know how:
