I feel dance is close to me, it is synonymous with me: Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Dixit who is making her Marathi film debut with Bucket List feels that now that cinema is not the only source of entertainment in today’s digital world, it is proving difficult for the younger generation of actors to establish themselves. Madhuri feels that today’s audiences are spoilt for choices and has lots of ‘distraction’ what with online and digital platforms providing original content and great shows for their perusal.

She said, “Today, there is so much distraction for people, like Netflix, etc… There is so much clutter. So, to make a place for yourself is difficult. Earlier, only movies were the mode of entertainment, but today there are lot of other things as well, so to make your own image is all the more difficult.” The 51-year-old actress with a million dollar smile is back on the silver screen with her Marathi film Bucket List in which she is teaming up with her Hum Aapke Hain Koun co-star Renuka Shahane after 24 years. She will also be seen in Total Dhamaal alongside Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgn and with Sanjay Dutt in Kalank. Kalank has an ensemble cast and also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Kunal Kemmu.

Apart from her films in the pipeline, Madhuri will also be seen on the small screen as a judge on a dance reality show called Dance Deewane. About doing other TV shows she said, “I don’t think I would like to try any reality show other than dance. As I feel dance is close to me, it is synonymous with me. I enjoy it. I enjoy watching people dance." She further adds, "This show (‘Dance Deewane’) is super fun as it has three generations of people dancing on stage – son, father and grandfather can also dance. This show has no age limit, we just want to see their Deewangi and how they dance.”

Madhuri was also asked about her views on the fact that many people criticize reality shows featuring children as they allege exploitation and she replied, “There are two ways of looking at it, one is this (exploitation) and the other is that there is so much talent in them and they are getting an opportunity to present it, so you can look at it both ways.” The show will also have two more judges, director Shashank Khaitan and choreographer Tushar Kalia have also been roped in for the show which will be aired on Colors TV from June 2, 2018.
