Irrfan Khan in Shoojit Sircar's most ambitious film till date -- The Udham Singh biopic

Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar has decided to make his dream project -- story on martyr Udham Singh with Irrfan Khan in the lead. As confirmed by a leading daily, Sircar is keen to make the film with the actor, who is currently being treated for NeuroEndocrine tumour in Europe.

The filmmaker has mentioned that he has been wanting to have Irrfan on board for the film and the actor agreed to play the part only recently. He said he knows it will take the actor sometime to cope up with his ailment and get back to work but he's confident that Irrfan would emerge back in full form. Shoojit told the tabloid, "I’ve been speaking to both Irrfan and his wife (Sutapa Sikdar), he’s responding well to the treatment and trying to cope with the knowledge that he’s battling NeuroEndocrine tumour by treating the recuperation in Europe like a short and unexpected holiday. I’m planning to visit him next month. We hope to roll by the year-end, but will wait till Irrfan is ready to shoot."

The Udham Singh biopic is the most ambitious project of Sircar, who has earlier helmed films like Piku and October in the past. For him, the story needs an actor with an exceptional acting prowess and Irrfan definitely fits the bill. He elaborated on the same and told the daily: "To relive Udham’s journey, I need a performance with finesse and depth which Irrfan is capable of. Also, he’s the only international actor we have today and I discovered to my delight that independently he knows a lot about the history of Punjab. It’s easy working with an actor who’s interested and involved."

Shoojit's last on-screen outing -- October, featuring Varun Dhawan, fared well at the box office despite getting mixed reviews from the critics.

We wish Irrfan a speedy recovery!
