“I want to back great content”: Alia’s next step would be film production

Young Alia Bhatt is close to achieving her first Rs.100-crore hit on her own steam. With Raazi going from strength to strength, she is enjoying the feeling – who wouldn’t?! – but she is determined not to allow the headiness of stardom to affect her.

Admitting that she is happy her films are doing well, she points out that she knows that she has a long way to go. “I am not delusional when it comes to all this. I do realise that Varun (Dhawan) has more mass following than I have and there’s no shame in admitting that. He’s doing well for himself and I’m trying to build my audience, too. So, I don’t let all this talk affect me,” she maintains.

In fact, the 25-year-old is also seriously considering producing a film. While she is not sure if she wants to set up a production house of her own, she is keen on backing a film that she feels is good. “I won’t take any money for that and maybe produce it. That’s the only way I can be involved with a movie, as a producer. I want to back great content,” she adds. Her passion for film is tremendous, and not surprising considering her background.

However, her plans, she shares, are largely in her head at this point and she hasn’t discussed the same with anyone yet. That said, we can safely presume the Bhatts’ Vishesh Films and mentor Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions would be only too ready to do the honours.

Alia knows her limits however and will not venture into direction as it is “too much of a responsibility”. Television she could well venture into, “a few years later”. The web series space could happen a lot sooner. She shares, “If it’s a web series or a film for an international digital platform, I’m very keen on doing it. That’s something I’m pretty open to trying because it’s like shooting a film only.”

While she has already received a few offers, she is clearly waiting for something that is “a big step ahead”. Nothing less will do for the amazing Alia Bhatt!
