Sanjay Dutt has chosen the date of his legendary actress mother Nargis Dutt’s 89th birth anniversary to revive his home banner. On June 1, the production house’s first film in seven years will roll. The film in question is the Hindi remake of the 2010 Telugu political-family drama. The original had dealt with politics at the grass root levels that occur in the villages of India, the corrupt political system and the nexus between businessmen and politicians.
Now it is learnt that the Dutt has signed on Manisha Koirala to play his wife in the film. Apparently, Manisha has liked the script and signed on the dotted line immediately. The film, which is woven around the Biblical concept that the sins of the fathers shall be visited upon the children, will also star Ali Fazal as Dutt’s son and Amyra Dastur as Ali’s love interest.

Coming back to the Manisha-Sanjay pairing, it will be interesting to see these seasoned actors sink their teeth into a film that deals with themes like greed, ambition and devotion. The pair had been first seen on screen way back in 1992, in Feroz Khan’s action film Yalgaar. They went on to do several films together, including Sanam, Kartoos, Khauff, Baaghi and their last film together, Afzal Khan’s 2008 romance Mehbooba.
The two have known each other for decades, and are happy to be working together again. Director Deva Katta, who has directed the original as well, confirmed, “Each character in Prasthaanam has a very strong role to play for which we needed actors with great calibre. When the team came up with the idea of casting Manisha for the part of Sanjay’s onscreen wife, it felt like the perfect match. I am looking forward to directing them, especially since they are coming back together after 10 years.”
Deva Katta’s original film had been a commercial and critical success down South. Nothing less is expected from the Hindi version!
