The late Sridevi’s eldest daughter Janhvi Kapoor has finally spoken about her mother’s untimely demise. The budding actress who will be making her Bollywood debut opposite Ishaan Khattar in Dhadak, the Hindi remake of popular Marathi film Sairat, spoke about the veteran actress to a leading magazine in an interview on whose cover she also features.
Janhvi had previously refrained from speaking about the loss of her mother but during the interview she said, “Of course. I could always be the baby with her. When I’d wake up, the first thing I’d do was ask for her. I’d need her to put me to sleep sometimes and she literally had to feed me. The day before she left for the wedding, I had to shoot, but I couldn’t sleep, so I was like, “I need you to come and put me to sleep.” But she was packing, so by the time she came to me I was half asleep. But I could feel her patting my head."

She also spoke about her younger sister Khushi Kapoor and how she has become a sort of maternal figure to her. Janhvi was asked whether she has become more maternal towards Khushi since their mother’s death, but Janhvi said, “I’ve always been very bad at that. Khushi is very maternal with me. I am a full baby. She takes care of me. Now she comes and puts me to sleep sometimes."

The debutante actress also spoke about how her extended family stood by her, her father and her sister, and helped them cope with their monumental loss. She said, “The family has come together. It’s made us feel safe and secure. Even for papa (Boney Kapoor), it’s a source of comfort. It has definitely tied us together. We’ve lost mum, and I don’t think that’s a loss any of us will ever get over.”
Sridevi’s untimely death brought Boney Kapoor’s children from his first wife – actor Arjun Kapoor and daughter Anshula Kapoor closer to the family as they helped the trio tide over their tragedy and helped them face the unwanted media attention and paparazzi glare. Arjun stood stolidly beside Boney as well as latter’s younger brothers actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor, while Anshula managed fort helping Janhvi and Khushi overcome the unexpected void.
Sridevi was awarded the Best Actress Award at the 65th National Film Award for her performance in the film Mom. Boney, Janhvi and Khushi accepted the prestigious award from the hands of President Ram Nath Kovind on behalf of their mother, Sridevi.
