Ranbir Kapoor's relationship with his father, actor Rishi Kapoor never remained quite amicable. But, the mutual respect was always there. The actor has started the promotions of Sanju, a Rajkumar Hirani film, in which he plays the central character of actor Sanjay Dutt.
Before the makers released an impressive trailer of the film, they got various posters of Sanju out, which triggered the buzz around. While Ranbir was receiving all the praises for his looks and the feel of the film, dad Rishi also turned into one of his admirers.
In an interview lately, he commented on how he just couldn't believe he was looking at his own son in the posters. He said he thought he was looking at Sanjay Dutt himself. "The way Rajkumar Hirani has presented Ranbir is the biggest superb thing, the boy has really done well. I am so proud of him. I swear on (wife) Neetu and Ranbir, I did not think it was Ranbir, I thought it was Sanjay Dutt,” said senior Kapoor.
Now, at the grand trailer launch event of Sanju, Ranbir was asked to comment on the same statement his dad made a few days back. A grateful Ranbir was quick to answer that he felt very emotional when he heard about his father's reaction to his film. He said, "Besides being my father, he is also an actor I really admire and respect... He never tells me to my face that I've done good work, not that I expect it either. But when you hear such words coming from him, it is incredible, it really moved me, made me emotional."
He added, "Every father wants their son to do well, but my father is very careful that he won't give compliments for free. He always tells us 'kasar reh gayi hai, work harder.' This was a wonderful gift."
Sanju is slated for release on June 29. It's been produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and also features Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Diz Mirza, Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal and Anushka Sharma in pivotal roles.
