The battle of Shahid Kapoor starrer film Batti Gul Meter Chalu seems to have taken a strange turn of events. Super Cassettes Industries Limited (T-series) through its lawyers Mason and Associates had filed a commercial suit before Hon’ble Delhi High Court against KriArj Entertainment and Easy Trip Planners Private Limited seeking permanent injunction and declaration in respect of certain rights (right to revenue share) in the cinematograph film Batti Gul Meter Chaalu.
On the other hand, Easy Trip Planners (EasemyTrip.com) through its lawyers Sandeep Bajaj and Aditya Chopra had also filed a suit against T-series and KriArj Entertainment seeking an injunction and declaration of the right of the first lien over the revenues of the movie.
After extensively hearing all the parties; the Court observed that serious disputes have been raised over the “genuineness of the agreements, letter and chats” placed on record by T-series and others and accordingly the same needs to be dealt in depth.
Pursuant to hearing the parties present, the court while issuing the notice in both the suits has directed both KriArj and EasemyTrip to file their written statements and further has allowed T-series to complete the said film. However, the Hon’ble Court while protecting the rights of all the stakeholders directed that any/all money received by creating rights for exploitation and distribution of the said film shall be deposited in an Escrow Account which shall be subject to the Court’s direction as the rights of Kriarj and EasemyTrip over the film needs to be adjudicated first.
It would be interesting to note that this film is originally a film KriArj has initiated and had got the director, lead start cast and thereafter T series as a partner. The first copyright owners and producers are KriArj of the film of which the original concept, screenplay and dialogues were written by Vipul K. Rawal who was also signed on by KriArj.
The next date of hearing is 5th July 2018.
