Recently, Karan Johar let the world know via a candid video that his upcoming film Kalank would include a surprise by Kriti Sanon. Calling her the “gorgeous barfi – not the one you eat but the one you can’t resist: the one and only Kriti Sanon,” he had instructed all to await more details.
Now it emerges that Kriti Sanon has joined the cast of this Abhishek Varma directorial, and will feature in an item number in the period saga produced by Dharma Productions. Buzz goes that the song she will perform to, has a desi feel and is raunchy to boot. The groovy track is already pegged to be a chartbuster.
The song will also feature Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy Kapoor and will be shot this week. A delighted Kriti shared, “It’s a very special song and a full-on masala Bollywood track that makes you groove instantly. It’s my first work association with Karan and Dharma Productions and I am thrilled about it. I haven’t done something like this before — whether it’s the song or the way I’ll look, so I’m very excited.”

Karan Johar’s ambitious new project has already begun shooting. On Saturday, leading men Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy Kapoor were on the set, caught in a funny mood in the heavy downpour. Varun had posted an Instagram story video wherein he and Aditya were spotted protecting themselves from the rains. They also had a message for their producer Karan. Describing how the monsoon had arrived in Mumbai and their plight at the shoot, Varun wrote, “All the lights have gone and we just have one appeal.” His co-actor Aditya joined him in saying, “Karan, only you can stop this rain.” Varun then chipped in with “Karan, only you can help, help this team.” Varun had also revealed that director Abhishek had refused to leave the sets.
An epic drama set in the 1940s, Kalank sports a heavyweight cast that includes Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kiara Advani.
