Paresh Rawal is back on the silver screen playing the pivotal and crucial role of Sunil Dutt in the Sanjay Dutt biopic Sanju which has been directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The film has already garnered some immense buzz among the audience and people are talking non-stop about the trailer and the impeccable portrayal that Ranbir Kapoor has done of Sanjay. However, Paresh has stepped into the huge and revered shoes of Dutt senior and for that, he needs a special clap. In a tete-a-tete, Rawal revealed his thoughts and emotions while doing the film and working with Rajkumar Hirani.
On asked about whether Rajkumar Hirani surprised him as a director Paresh said, “I have seen his films, I know what kind of subject he chooses, his films always have a takeaway. Sanjay Dutt’s story is overdramatic and over-the-top. To keep it subtle, you needed a filmmaker of the caliber of Raju Hirani.”

Talking about the inspiration for the movie, Sanjay, he said, “Sanjay Dutt only played hero in films, his life is not heroic. After watching the film one would learn not to be so quick in forming impressions and passing judgment. However, Sanjay is very strong he was going through so much in life but he never ever went back to drugs and that is a character strength that one must applaud him for.”
When Rawal was asked that he could not look as tall as Dutt Senior and does not match his physical attributes, then how tough was it to portray him, he said, “Sunil Dutt does not have a characteristic mannerism like Sanjay Dutt. He does not have a typical way of walking and talking unlike his son. In all his films he never played himself, the only thing that comes across is his honesty.”
