Want to meet Varun Dhawan everyday? Here's how

It was just last year that the October star, Varun Dhawan, spoke up about the smog situation in the capital during his visit in the city to shoot Shoojit Sircar's film. He shared a picture of himself wearing a mask with a sheet of thick smog in the background. He wrote, "I have clicked this selfie to show you guys what actual smog looks like. I don’t want to preach I am equally to blame for this mess as most of the citizens of our great country, but now instead of blaming each other and the government let’s change. It’s time we go green. #delhichokes."

On the occasion of World Environment Day, doing his bit for the environment again, the actor teamed up with a local volunteer group ForWard 69 to install a plastic-crushing machine on the Juhu beach to fight single-use plastic pollution.

Speaking about the initiative, Varun said, “I have spent many evening on the beach, playing cricket or enjoying gola with my friends. It pains me to see the state of affairs today. Versova beach is an example of how beaches can be cleaned if people put their mind to it. It's time to make a beginning. I want my newborn niece to play on Juhu beach, like we used to, as kids.”

The actor also added:

"If the beach is clean and plastic-free, you will see me on the beach every day."

After installing the plastic bottle-crushing kiosk, Varun encouraged the youth to join hands in the cleaning up of the beach along with other citizens. A nukad-naatak was also organized which highlighted the issue of #BeatPlasticPollution in which Varun participated ass well. The group also spoke up about how fisherman find 80% of plastic as opposed to 20% of fish in their nets, daily.

Earlier in the year, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha actor, Akshay Kumar, had installed biodegradable toilets at the beach. This event kick-starts a year-long awareness campaign and clean-up drives.
