PV Sindhu thinks Deepika Padukone will be a perfect fit to play her in biopic

Bollywood has hit on the novel idea of making biopics and there are a horde of films on renowned people in the pipeline. Sportspersons remain one of the biggest draws for a biopic, so after MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar and Mary Kom we have biopics on Saina Nehwal, Kapil Dev and PV Sindhu in the making. PV Sindhu is the first female Indian athlete to win an Olympic silver medal at the Rio Olympics 2016, and her tremendous feat will be showcased in a film that is produced by actor-producer Sonu Sood. Sindhu is clearly elated with the fact that a film is being made on her and thinks that Deepika Padukone will be the perfect fit to play her in the biopic.

Sindhu said, “I think Deepika Padukone would be great; she is a very good actor. But then, I think the makers would be the best people to decide whom to cast for the film. I'm definitely happy that this film is happening and (am) looking forward to watching it, like everyone else." Even actor-producer Sonu had earlier said, “I would love to see Deepika playing the character of Sindhu in my film. She is a fine actress. We are still in scripting stage. If the part is offered to her and she likes the script and director and has the time for it, she will surely give her nod. After the completion of the script, I would like to approach her for this role because when you become a producer, it becomes a huge responsibility to present a strong script in front of actors.”

Deepika is the daughter of former badminton great Prakash Padukone and was a national player herself in her school days. She left badminton to focus on her career in modelling and later took to films in which she has made a name for herself.

Apparently, Sindhu has shared all the details required to make the biopic which will be a bilingual one – in Hindi and Telugu. She said “I’ve given everything to Sonu Sood and he’s looking after the film quite well. They are currently working on the film. I’m there if required, but don’t think I am, because I’ve already provided them with everything. Plus, for me, first (priority) is badminton; I’m mostly caught up with my practice and tournaments.” Sindhu was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2015 and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2016.

It was speculated that Sindhu will do a cameo in her biopic but the athlete said, “No, I don’t know about this. Nothing has been decided yet.” In the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Sindhu lost the gold medal to fellow shuttler Saina Nehwal. Incidentally, a biopic is also being made on Saina in which Shraddha Kapoor will play the title role. The two badminton players have achieved such fame that every time they make it to a tournament’s final the Indian people expect them to win.
