Sanju Poster: Meet Dia as Maanayata, the woman who stood with Dutt through his thick and thin

The Sanjay Dutt biopic titled Sanju has got the entire nation waiting with bated breath for its release. Seldom has it ever happened that a film has managed to create such anticipation and excitement in the hearts of the viewers. The Rajkumar Hirani directed film starring Ranbir Kapoor as the male lead along with Paresh Rawal, Nargis Dutt, Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor and Dia Mirza has already taken over the internet for being one of the most searched keywords. Today, true to his word Hirani shared another poster from the film which introduces Dia Mirza as Sanjay Dutt’s wife Maanayata.

Hirani shared the poster with the words, “And here comes Dia Mirza as Maanayata, someone who's stood by #Sanju through thick and thin.” Dia plays Sanjay’s third wife Maanayata with whom the actor has twin children - Shahraan and Iqra.

Maanayata and Sanjay got married in 2008 and two years later the couple became parents to twins, Shahraan and Iqra. Maanayata is supposed to be the pillar and the strength on which Dutt leans on. His conviction and later imprisonment in the arms case came after he got married to her and she stood by him through thick and thin, going so far as to lie to their children about his tenure in jail.

Dia looks very much like Maanayata in the poster. She has been given the trademark mole on the left cheek in a resemblance to Maanayata. She does bear a fleeting resemblance to Dutt’s wife and the filmmakers should be complimented on the fact that their casting is right on target. Dia’s image on the poster gives her a vulnerable look and her eyes show the pain that it is hiding and trying to overcome. It will be interesting to see the actress portray Dutt’s mainstay in life especially when a lot was said about their marriage and the speculated fallout of Dutt with his sisters.
