The film Soorma is the tale of former Indian hockey captain Sandeep Singh. Directed by Shaad Ali, who has helmed hit films like Saathiya and Bunty Aur Babli in the past, the sports drama stars Diljit Dosanjh in the shoes of Singh, and Taapsee Pannu as his love interest and a hockey player herself. Today, the makers of the film released the second poster of the film feature Diljit as Singh.

In the poster, we see Diljit lost in his world and thoughts as he fidgets with his hockey stick in the middle of the night. The poster depicts how Sandeep was in a dark phase but yet his focus did not shift from his game. It was this dedication that makes him the legend that he is. He is the man who is credited with bringing team India back into the hockey world after suffering a bad hit. In fact, with this comeback, he was given the title of ‘Flicker Singh’. This nickname comes after his drag speed of over 145 km/hr, which is considered as the world’s most dangerous drag-flickers. It makes him a master in this peculiar hockey technique.

His career came to what seemed like an end when he suffered an accidental gunshot. Though, he isn’t a legend for no reason. He said that defeat was just a detour in his career and not a dead end. Nothing could stop him. He got back on and made a comeback in 2008 that we couldn’t forget. He brought home the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup under his captaincy and even qualified for the 2012 Olympics.

Soorma also features actor Angad Bedi as Bikramjeet, Sandeep’s elder brother and a hockey player. Bikramjeethimself will be seen doing a cameo appearance as a member of the Pakistani hockey team. The movie will arrive in cinemas on July 13, 2018.
