Varun Dhawan 'stands by Priyanka Chopra' after she apologises for a Quantico episode

Actress Priyanka Chopra received a lot of backlash lately due to her popular show, Quantico. The season 3 of the show is on air. One of the episodes from the current show, titled The Blood Romeo, showed Indian nationalists planning an attack on Manhattan. The viewers took offense and wrote on social media asking Priyanka to reason how could she be a part of an episode which apparently shows Indians in a bad light, when she is herself an Indian.

Owing to the sensitivity of the matter, the actress took to Twitter and apologised. She wrote:

Following this, ABC Studios, the creators of Quantico also apologised and said, "ABC Studios and the executive producers of Quantico would like to extend an apology to our audience who were offended by the most recent episode, 'The Blood of Romeo.' The episode has stirred a lot of emotion, much of which is unfairly aimed at Priyanka Chopra, who didn't create the show, nor does she write or direct it. She has no involvement in the casting of the show or the storylines depicted in the series. The show has featured antagonists of many different ethnicities and backgrounds, but in this case, we inadvertently and regrettably stepped into a complex political issue. It was certainly not our intention to offend anyone".

Now, actors Varun Dhawan and Ayushmann Khurrana were asked to comment on the same. The two were addressing a press conference in Mumbai when they took a moment to speak their mind on the matter. Ayushmann said, "When you play a character, you have your own thought and that can’t be right or wrong. You’re following a script, a director and that’s your first responsibility...There are all kinds of opinions, you will get backlash when you take one side. You can’t escape this".

Varun though maintained that PC has made the country proud and that should be the end of every conversation. He said, “To end it, Priyanka Chopra has made the entire country very proud and we stand by her. There’s nothing else".

Amid a lot of balloon, a few people on Twitter also felt there was no need of taking an offense over something that a fictional TV serial is showing. Check out these tweets:
