Here’s why Sushant Singh Rajput accepted Mukesh Chhabra’s The Fault In Our Stars

Sushant Singh Rajput is apparently quite the loyalist… He didn’t think twice before allocating his dates for the directorial debut of casting director Mukesh Chhabra. Turns out, it was Chhabra who had discovered him for his debut film, Kai Po Che which had released in 2013. Before that, Sushant had been limited to television, playing the lead in serials among which Pavitra Rishta was the most popular.

Now, he has green-lighted Chhabra’s debut directorial, which is the Hindi remake of the Hollywood film based on John Green’s bestselling teenage romance, The Fault in Our Stars.

The actor declares, “It was a very natural decision to be a part of his film. Now I acknowledge the importance of narratives among other things, and his narrative was very good.” Adding that Chhabra was the first person who discovered him for his debut film, he says, “It is only sensible and right that when he is doing his first film that I add value to it.”

Fond of analysing his methods, he points out that he likes pushing his limits in order to give his best to a project. “I always stretch myself to just that limit where I think I won’t be able to push it any longer and it will be tough. This thought keeps me so engaged that I don’t get to know if I am working hard or less, but it’s meaningful and then whatever the outcome is, it’s for everyone to see,” feels the actor, who received praise for his performances in Shuddh Desi Romance (2013) and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016).

He also has his own take on the term celebrity. In his understanding, a celebrity is someone who celebrates, and if there is nothing to celebrate, creates something that should be celebrated. “That’s one definition of celebrity and I am working towards it,” vouches the actor.
