Director Rajkumar Hirani is nowadays asked many questions about the cast of his upcoming, Sanju. He roped-in actor Ranbir Kapoor to play Sanjay Dutt on-screen and there, the world started throwing questions at Hirani as to how he could think a shy and timid actor like Ranbir could play a macho and rugged Sanjay Dutt in a film.
This time, when the same question was asked to Sanju's producer, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, he gave a rather revelatory answer. He said he was thinking of having actor Ranveer Singh on board to play the lead in the film. However, Hirani was convinced that it's going to be Ranbir and no other actor who's playing Dutt in Sanju.

In a recent interview with a daily, Chopra said, "It was Raju’s idea to cast Ranbir. When he told me about Ranbir, I wasn’t happy at all. I thought someone else, like Ranveer Singh, could play this role much better. I thought Ranveer had the flamboyance, the emotional depth as well as the ability to change himself completely to play Sanjay Dutt".
He also mentioned how he completely didn't believe Hirani, whom he fondly calls Raju, when he brought him the idea of making Sanju. He explained, "But when he sat me down and started narrating all that had happened in Sanju’s life, I was stunned! At first, I thought it was hogwash… that Sanju was somehow not telling Raju the truth, but when we started researching all that he’s said — from the 308 girlfriends he had to how he begged on the streets of US for the money to buy a bus ticket — we realised that everything he had told us was true!"
Well, do you think Ranveer would have carried the role better than Ranbir?
