The film which minted Rs 32.94 crore in India on its opening weekend, was distributed internationally by Zee Studios International, releasing in 450 screens across 42 countries, read a statement to a news agency. Based on Harinder Sikka's book Calling Sehmat, the story of Raazi revolves around a young Kashmiri girl who gets married to a Pakistani Army officer and becomes a spy to give inside information about the neighboring country to protect her own.
Recently, in an interview, Alia spoke about playing Sehmat in her latest outing. She points Raazi was a different experience because she totally immersed herself in the character to the point that she started questioning Sehmat’s way of thinking. She elaborated, “We shot it (Raazi) in one go and I didn’t have any downtime. So, at the end of the day when I would go to sleep, I was just too tired. I remember once I was sitting with Meghna and was generally talking about the character. We were not even shooting but I got very emotional and was like, ‘why does Sehmat have to go through all of that? This is so sad.’ It’s weird, and not normal. How can that happen to anybody? So, obviously, your reel characters do leave a bit of residue in your real life.”
Co-produced by Junglee Pictures, the film also stars Rajit Kapur, Soni Razdan and Jaideep Ahlawat in pivotal roles. The film was released in India on May 11.
