It’s in the genes after all… We are not surprised that actress-singer Shruti Haasan is now set to add film production to her repertoire. The elder daughter of doyen Kamal Haasan is turning producer with director Jayprakash Radhakrishnan’s forthcoming Tamil film, The Mosquito Philosophy. Yes, with that edgy title, we can be sure the content is going to be deliciously different as well.
Shruti explains that after seeing the director’s last works, including his acclaimed film Lens, she knew she had found the right person to associate with. “He has an edgy vision and creatively showcases even the simplest stories. It’s fantastic to work with someone who has the courage to offer new content that challenges conventional thinking,” vouches Shruti, who is very excited about this association. In fact, Shruti, who is currently shooting with Vidyut Jammwal for Mahesh Manjrekar’s upcoming Hindi directorial, is looking at a long-term working relationship with JP.

JP is equally gung-ho about the collaboration with Shruti. “It’s almost surreal when I think of how this happened,” he shares. “One minute I was talking to Sarikaji (Shruti’s actress-mother) about life in general and this film and next thing I know, Shruti’s production house comes on board to present and produce it. Together we look forward to taking The Mosquito Philosophy forward and share our journey with audiences the world over.”
The film is no ordinary entertainer. Based around a real scenario, it is shot with a basic storyline and has no scripted dialogues. Equipment and crew are kept to a bare minimum to ensure a realistic portrayal of life on screen. According to JP, the film is “an interrogation of society, caught between tradition and modernity seen through the story of four friends.”
It is just the right fit for Shruti, who had earlier shared that she wants to produce edgy, diverse content across formats that further creative process. Daddy and Mommy will be proud!
