Anurag Basu who has been hankering to make the Kishore Kumar biopic for the past six years has been facing countless issues which are seemingly insurmountable. After working on Jagga Jasoos, rumours about Ranbir not keen to work with the director were making rounds. Adding lack of dates by Ranbir and pre-imposed conditions by Amit Kumar, filming for the biopic seemed like a distant thought.
However, during a recent media interaction for Sanju, the actor shed some light on the Kishore Kumar biopic as well. Speaking about the status of the film, he said, "We really wanted to make that biopic but dada could not get permissions from certain families. We still have to get permission. In this country, if XYZ doesn't give you permission, you can't make it. Even while making Sanju, there were a lot of calls that came in saying "Hum toh nahi hai na?""

Earlier it was lack of dates at a stretch from Ranbir's end was one of the reasons why the film has still not materialized. Director Anurag had said, “Ranbir and I are certainly doing Kishore. We’d have gone into it right after Barfi. But then Ranbir got committed to Bombay Velvet. So I decided to make Jagga Jasoos first. Kishore can’t be made in breaks and spurts. It has to be done in one long stretch.”
However, things piled up for the director, further stretching the filming of the film.
“Though the script is ready, we can’t just announce that we’re doing the film. It needs to be foolproof... There are certain legalities. We need permission and input from people associated with Kishore Kumar and mentioned in the film. [Otherwise] during the making or after the film releases, many might raise objections,” says Basu.
Other factors adding to the delaying in the film have been cited as certain reluctance from his kin about how certain aspect of his life will be shown including the controversial personal choices in his life, especially his multiple affairs and marriages.
