One couldn’t help chuckling at Karan Johar’s hilarious use of his ‘family anthem’, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… in his short film, which is part of the Lust Stories omnibus. The song peals out at just the moment the lead character of his film, played by Kiara Advani reaches a climax using a vibrator – and this in front of her scandalized mother-in-law!

However, not all are amused. The family of veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar is downright furious with the filmmaker for using the "bhajan-like song" rendered by Lata for an orgasm scene. Hurt by the alleged misuse of this iconic number, they feel that Karan could have used any other song for the scene.

A member of the Mangeshkar family has gone public with the clan’s disappointment, questioning Karan’s decision. “Why? Why did Karan Johar use Lata Didi’s immortal song in such an embarrassing situation? I still remember how ecstatic Karan was when Didi had recorded the song for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. He said it was a dream come true. Why turn the dream song into a nightmare now?”

The irate family member reveals that they have not shared with the veteran singer yet about the inclusion of her song in this scene from Lust Stories. “We have withheld this blasphemous use of the song from Lataji. At her age, we don’t want to expose her to this kind of ugly desecration of her song. But we (Mangeshkars) wonder why he needed to use a Bhajan-like song sung in the most revered voice of Asia to show his heroine in an orgasmic state. He could have used any other song.”

The said song had originally been picturised on Jaya Bachchan as a song of praise to the joint family system. Ironically, in Karan’s Lust Stories film, it is used to champion the cause of female pleasure. The song serves as cheeky punchline but, like we said, not all are seeing the funny side of it!
