Student of the Year 2’s Tara Sutaria bags her next opposite Shahid Kapoor in 'Arjun Reddy'

The young and gorgeous Tara Sutaria is unstoppable. First, she beat back competition to catch Karan Johar’s sharp eye, landing her a dream debut in Student of the Year 2. The film is set to hit screens on November 23, but Tara already has another feather in her glossy cap – a film opposite Shahid Kapoor. Yes, buzz has it that the 22-year-old has snagged her second big film, namely the Hindi remake of the 2017 Telugu superhit Arjun Reddy.

Apparently, it was Tara’s vulnerable demeanour and her newness that attracted the makers. Casting for the film had been in progress since the past six months and though names like Sara Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor were supposedly also considered, the role went to Tara.

The yet untitled remake of South hit Arjun Reddy is an unconventional love story of Arjun, an alcoholic surgeon. He hits a very rough patch after his college sweetheart, Preethi, marries someone else. Shahid will essay the male lead which had been played by Vijay Deverakonda in the original, while Tara will play Shalini Pandey’s role from the original.

Tara, like her name suggests, was meant to be star. She has been showcasing her talent since her childhood. A professional singer from the age of seven, at 13, she participated in Sony’s ‘Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega’ which was judged by Farah Khan and Anu Malik. An accomplished singer who has performed concerts in London, Tokyo, Lavasa and Mumbai, her TV break came as the host of Disney channel’s show ‘Big Bada Boom’.

She went on to act in the Disney show ‘The Suite Life of Karan & Kabir’, followed by ‘Oye Jassie’. She essayed the lead role in Raell Padamsee’s production of the musical Grease, and performed Phantom of the Opera’s “Think of Me” and Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” at TedX in Mumbai. It will be interesting to see how she fits into the Arjun Reddy remake which has been tailored for a more North Indian audience. Going by her record, she will ace it as well!
