It is no longer taboo to show women’s desire on screen: Kiara Advani

Lust Stories which is an anthology film consisting of four short film segments directed by four different directors shows female sexuality in a bold way. The short segments have been directed by Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Bannerjee. Kiara Advani who stars in the segment directed by Karan Johar plays the role of a newly-married woman with a dull sex life. Her character emboldened by Neha Dhupia in the film uses a vibrator to reach climax – albeit in front of her scandalized mother-in-law. Kiara has now opened up about the scene and said, "It is no longer taboo to show women’s desire on screen."

A leading daily reported Kiara saying, “I feel now it is becoming normal and natural and people are talking about it, eventually they will think, why make a big deal of it? It will take time. Not every person is going to be okay. For instance, kissing scenes were considered a huge deal but not today.”

She further added, “Everybody is aware and exposed to and is educated enough. As long as nothing is out of context, then it is fine to show it in films. It is good that everything is being shown instead of forcefully trying to hide it. At the end of the day, lust is a by-product of love."

Kiara said she completely trusted Karan’s vision as the director and none of them looked “awkwardly” at the orgasm scene. She said that the scene came out the way it was written and the way they had expected it to, and it wasn’t awkward shooting the scene as they were all professionals and knew that they are doing their job.

The scene is an important one that shows women’s need to get satisfied but the depiction is funny especially since Kiara’s character reaches her climax in front of her in-laws. The reality in the scene ends up looking funny.
