One of the most-awaited films of the year, Sanju is finally here. The film has a plethora of pluses going for it, so much so it is being considered a blockbuster in trade circles already!
Unlike Padmaavat which released during Republic Day and Race 3 which arrived this Eid, Sanju does not have the advantage of releasing around a public holiday. Evidently, the film does not need such crutches!
According to trade analyst Girish Johar, this Ranbir Kapoor-starrer based on the tumultuous life of Sanjay Dutt, is expected to earn close to Rs.30 crore on day one itself. In fact, it is predicted to enter the Rs.100 crore club within three days of its release. Johar explains that Sanju is releasing in more than 4000 screens. He adds, “Its advance booking started at an average pace but it picked up later during the weekend. Now, owing to the fandom of Ranbir, the young audience is going to throng the theatres. The Rajkumar Hirani film will expectedly open with a collection between Rs.27-30 crore. It might also cross the 100-crore mark in its opening weekend.”
Sanju has several pros in its favour which combine to make the film a winning proposition…
The Ranbir factor
Ranbir has apparently delivered a performance of a lifetime in the film, adding to his bouquet of varied roles. The fact that he had a string of not-so-great releases hardly seems to matter. His most recent, Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil achieved good figures and Sanju looks set to take his commercial success graph even higher.
The Hirani factor
Rajkumar Hirani has the rare honour of having delivered a thumping hit with every single film he has directed so far in his 15-year-long career in Bollywood. His films have come to be synonymous with extraordinary content and engaging stories delivered with winning grace.
The Dutt factor
The man at the core of this biopic, Sanjay Dutt, has led a life so extreme, it almost seems like fiction. From his drug addiction, to 500+ girlfriends, to his arrest and imprisonment, his life story would be of interest to even the most jaded cine-watcher. Who could resist?!
