Casting Ouch: When a man tried to kiss Swara Bhasker’s ear at a work meeting

Swara Bhasker is known to take the bull by its horns. During the course of a recent interview, she made several candid revelations, such as the time a manager of a big-time producer, once got overly friendly with her during a work meeting. Even as he asked her about her residential details, she was making a quick exit... But not before he tried to kiss her ear, saying, ‘I love you baby’. She shares that she shrunk away from him and “so he got a mouthful of my hair so I was just like… so that kind of stuff happens. It’s all a part of casting couch, right?” Right…and how very wrong!

Speaking about her view of feminism, she quoted, “Feminism is about a thought that there should be equality amongst the genders. And equality not just of representation but equality of opportunity and equality of accountability, which is something that not just women but a lot of communities in India have not had, whether it is caste, whether it is women.”

She explained that for her, feminism is all about giving women choice. “So if some women choose to be conservative or choose to deny themselves their own rights, what can I say? I think it is completely legitimate to ask those women that why do they want to tie themselves down?” she voiced, amidst loud applause.

Swara has been in the eye of a storm lately post Veere Di Wedding. A scene which depicted her masturbating led to her being trolled and slammed by certain sections. She admits, “Yes, I did anticipate the hate that has come my way but I don’t think you should care about that as an actor and an artiste. I don’t think you should care about what the (audience) reaction would be while performing as it is distractive, unhelpful and creates a fear that doesn’t help in the performance anyway.”

Referring to the trolling she said, it was “reflective of how hypocritical society is.” Attagirl, Bhasker!
