Deepika’s next film could be with Masaan director Neeraj Ghaywan

When you are Deepika Padukone, you have no dearth of offers coming your way. Not long ago we heard that with marriage beckoning – she and beau Ranveer Singh will allegedly tie the knot towards the end of November – she had become choosier than ever about her forthcoming films. With an unexpected gap created in her shooting schedule after Irrfan’s sudden illness scuttled her Vishal Bhardwaj film, B-town’s numero uno is using the enforced free time to carefully sieve through film offers. When she returns, post wedding, she will plunge into the filming of a series of films, to make up for lost time.

In the pipeline is the Hindi remake of a South film that starred Sridevi, made nearly 40 years ago. Deepika is also reported to have signed another film which will be India’s first female superhero franchise modelled on the likes of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. The film, for which the actress will apparently undergo rigorous martial arts training, is pegged to go on the floors next year.

Now for her third…Apparently the actress has been in serious talks with Masaan director Neeraj Ghaywan. The undeniably gifted filmmaker and the Padmaavat heroine have apparently been in advanced talks for a forthcoming drama. Her office, which occupies a floor of her home in a Prabhadevi apartment complex, is where Deepika meets prospective filmmakers, along with her entire team. Her team is involved in every discussion as she is reportedly keen on getting several opinions on the offers she is receiving.

Deepika’s choice of the offbeat Masaan filmmaker is interesting. Coincidentally, during the course of an interview last year Neeraj had revealed that Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor were the two actors he would like to work with.

“I think Piku was one of Deepika’s best and among Ranbir’s films, I really liked Rocket Singh,” he had shared. He had also added, “I believe the women are doing much better than the men nowadays. They are experimenting more with their roles.”

Guess we can safely expect something satisfyingly experimental should Ghaywan and Padukone indeed collaborate in the near future!
