Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy shoot for a retro song in film Gold

Akshay Kumar’s Gold which is all set to release on August 15 this year has created the right kind of patriotic fervor in the minds of the audience. The film is based on a real-life incident of India winning its first Olympic gold medal in Hockey as a free nation. Akshay plays the role of coach Tapas Dan who is instrumental and the main driving force of the team who eventually clinches the gold medal. The film is directed by Reema Kagti and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.

Recently, Akshay shot for a fun party retro song along with debutante Mouni Roy who plays his wife in the film. The song is titled Mono Beena and has traditional Bengali feel to it. It has been composed by Tanishk Bagchi. Bagchi revealed that Akshay also contributed to the lyrics of the song. Apparently, the idea to change the lyrics of the song from Mona Lisa to Mono Beena was Akshay’s idea as he felt that it would sound better with a Bengali girl’s name.

Since Akshay and Mouni play a Bengali couple in the film the idea was well received by Reema and the producers. The song has been sung by a new singer named Yasir who is being introduced with this composition. The female vocals have been sung by Monali Thakur and Shashaa Tirupati. Tanishk told a leading daily that he flew to Chennai to put together a band especially for the song.

Talking about the song Bagchi told the daily, “It is very jazz-oriented, so I assembled a band that comprised musicians from different acts because we required the live orchestra feel. The song is not like an item song and has blues and jazz characteristics to it which the composer hopes will be well received by the audience." For the composer, the brief was for a retro but classy number, not an item song.

The soon will be out soon.
