Akshay Kumar talks about Gold clashing with John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate

Akshay Kumar is all set to once again bring the spirit of patriotism to the silver screens with his upcoming film Gold. The film will be hitting the screens on Independence Day on August 15, 2018, and will have a momentous clash with John Abraham and Manoj Bajpayee starrer Satyameva Jayate.

Today during a song launch from his film, Akshay Kumar was asked about the oncoming clash with his fellow actor and good friend John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate. The PadMan actor said, “John is my friend. In the industry, we all are friends. I have learned that we can come together on any date and release our film. We all are friends in Bollywood, whether it is Eid, Diwali or Christmas, we all come together as we are all friends."

John, on the other hand, who has also embarked on the patriotic genre after a series of films, was asked about the clash during the trailer launch of Satyameva Jayate. The Parmanu actor said, “There are enough screens in the country for two films to release on the same date."

In 1948, under the captaincy of Kishan Lal and Vice-Captain Kunwar Digvijay Singh, the country won its first gold medal as an independent nation in field hockey at the London Olympics. Gold is a film based on this stupendous win. When Akshay was asked about being a part of a sports-based film, he said, “We should consider more sports other than cricket. With this film, I hope people will get to know more about Hockey. Things are changing now that the government is supporting the sport more.”

Further about playing hockey and the inspiration, he said, "I will only be seen playing Hockey for 20 seconds." "My role has been inspired by Dhyanchad. It would be wrong to say it’s based on him; it has fictional elements."

"Gold is not just a hockey based film, it is a sports film!" asserts Akshay.

Akshay also spoke about the importance of a Gold Medal, playing a Bengali character and other industries.

On clinching a Gold medal

"When my son got Gold Medal and Black Medal in Martial arts and we celebrated it. Gold is important for any family but if you don’t get it, you shouldn’t be disheartened."

On playing a Bengali character

"I have stayed in Kolkata for two years and one coach was appreciated. I was scared it shouldn’t look like caricature and thankfully, no one has said that yet."

"TV celebs work much harder than movie celebs."

Akshay plays the role of a Bengali coach in the film who is instrumental in creating a team that eventually clinches the gold medal defeating the British team. Television star Mouni Roy is making her Bollywood debut with the film. Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Kumar Singh, Amit Sadh and  Sunny Kaushal also star in pivotal roles in the film. Gold is directed by Reema Kagti and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
