Sanjay Dutt’s biopic Sanju is minting money at the box office and is on a rampage, talking over every other film in its path. Salman Khan’s Race 3 too faced Sanju's wrath as it edged past it with flying colours. Ranbir Kapoor who plays Sanjay in the film directed by Rajkumar Hirani is being showered with applause and praise for his performance. However, the film has been criticized for not being made the way a biopic should have been. Sanjay opened up about the film and his life in an interview to a leading news website.
Sanjay has been known to be very close to his mother, late actress Nargis Dutt and their relationship have been depicted in the film beautifully. Manisha Koirala plays the role of Nargis in the film. Sanjay has maintained that his dark days and struggle with drug addiction happened during his mother’s ill health and continued after her demise. In the interview, Sanjay spoke about Nargisji and said, “There was a lot of pressure when my mother fell ill. My (first) movie was on the verge of release, and she was in a coma. I was very young. I just couldn't understand why I had to leave my mother and go to the film set.”

Sanjay also revealed a startling truth that he smoked up in Nargis’s hospital room. He said, “I couldn't forgive myself for many years. It was a lesson learned. I wanted the younger generation to know that that was what drugs could do to you. Your body demands smoking up.”
Dutt further shared the lessons learned from his mother, “My mother used to say that the most important thing is to be a good human being. Everything else comes after that. I learned that from both my father and mother. I'm passing on to my kids. I hope my wife doesn't pamper my children the way my mother did me.” Nargis died before Sanjay's first film Rocky was released.
Apparently, Sanjay is also planning to write an autobiography on his life which should touch on the aspects of his life that were not shown in the film.
