Nagraj Manjule's Sairat attained the status of a blockbuster in no time after its release. Reaping from the sweet success of the Marathi superhit, Karan Johar announced a Hindi remake of the film. Expectations have been riding high ever since. Add to that Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter's Bollywood debut. Recreating the magic of a ginormous glory ain't easy. But seems like Johar trusted director Shashank Khaitan to take the challenge heads on.
Sairat made a young Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru an overnight sensation. The duo even travelled abroad, such was the buzz around their film. With Janhvi and Ishaan, eyeballs are pinned to their every move as viewers are already aware of what the plot is, but it comes with a twist this time - fresh faces! However, if you believe Janhvi, she believes Rinku's performance cannot be repeated by anyone.
Janhvi tells a leading news agency:
"What Rinku has done in Sairat, everyone said how honestly she played that character and lived every beat. She's an unbelievably talented girl. I don't think anyone else can repeat that performance ever."
The 21-year-old does not favour any sort of imitation when it comes to her craft. "Even if I tried, it would be a joke because no one can do what she's done. That would be an imitation. There's no fun in that. As an actor, I want to live, experience and not imitate," Janhvi tells the news agency.
Janhvi, however, hopes that the audience connects with her character Parthavi. "My character, Parthavi means a lot to me. I learnt from her journey, her experience. I approached the role with a lot of responsibility and sincerity. I hope that'll show on the screen," she said.
Dhadak is scheduled to release on July 20, 2018.
