It is confirmed! Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy will play a married couple in Dinesh Vijan’s quirky comedy Made in China. The film is all set to roll in September in Mumbai, followed by Gujarat and finally China. It is produced by Dinesh Vijan whose Hindi Medium garnered an overwhelming response in China. The film is helmed by Gujarati director Mikhil Musale. Made in China is Rajkummar’s second collaboration with Vijan after the upcoming horror-comedy Stree which also stars Shraddha Kapoor.
A source told PeepingMoon that Rajkummar plays a struggling Gujarati businessman and Mouni plays his wife, a Mumbai girl who moves to Ahmedabad after marrying him. Mouni stands by Rajkummar during his struggle and pushes him to go to China when the opportunity arises. She plays the role of a simple housewife, living in a lower-middle-class locality. However, she is feisty and crazy about Rajkummar’s character. On the other hand, Rajkummar who wants to give her the best crosses over to China to become a successful entrepreneur. The source added that the film is about the couple’s fascinating and extraordinary journey.

Apparently, Vijan is extremely happy with the pairing and is excited to have sensual and sensitive Mouni on board. Talking about his female lead, Dinesh said, “We wanted someone who’d connect with the heartland and Mouni, a typical Indian beauty, has a huge fan following. She has a strong personality but gentle eyes and is a good dancer which is essential for the role as her character has a passion for classical Indian dance having learned it. She has started working on her Gujarati dialect."
Dinesh also did not shy away from heaping praise on his main actor. Talking about his male lead he said, "Raj will start prep soon and knowing the chameleon that he is, I’m sure he’ll quickly get under the skin of the character."On the work front, Mouni will soon be making her Bollywood debut opposite Akshay Kumar in Reema Kagti’s Gold. She will also be seen in Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's Brahmastra.
