It used to be considered a luxury, to be born to actor parents and tail them on the sets of their films. And then when you reach the age, a director or a producer would launch you in a fancy debut vehicle - To those outside the world of showbiz this is the supposed norm followed for every Bollywood baccha. Nepotism, in precise words. There is no denying the existence of the very term, but it, at the same time, is also true, that some star-kids come with a set of talent and skills you can't help but wow at! Sample, Ishaan Khatter.
Son of veteran actress Neelima Azim and popular actor Rajesh Khatter, Ishaan also is the half-brother of superstar Shahid Kapoor (Neelima Azim's son from marriage with Pankaj Kapoor). Thus, he, perhaps, had an easy access to your renowned filmmakers, but if you believe Shashank Khaitan, the boy offers a great physicality and vitality. In fact, the same showcased in his Instagram videos (they are amazingly funny FYI) led a big banner like Dharma Productions to approach Ishaan for a film. And no, it was not Dhadak.
In a group interaction with the media, Khaitan revealed how Ishaan was picked for another film and then became the natural choice for Dhadak.
"We were already chatting with Ishaan for another film. Karan (Johar) was already considering him. I was kind of involved in the writing of that film. But, that film was taking time and it was no happening. So, when I decided to make Dhadak, he came across as an option because I have already met him, I have already seen what he offers. We actually approached him because of his Instagram videos. When he used to put Instagram videos where you could see madness in him and there was still a vitality and yet you realised that this guy has more façade, he is just out there, he can express anything and once you start meeting him, you realise everything was true and then you realise there’s also a physicality he was offering was great and so that’s how Ishaan came in so he kind of became the natural choice for this."
Guess what, albeit that film hasn't taken off yet, Dhadak is all set to release tomorrow, on July 20, 2018. The official remake of Sairat stars Ishaan opposite Janhvi Kapoor, the daughter of legendary Sridevi and Boney Kapoor. Directed by Khaitan, the film has been bankrolled by Dharma.
