Curiosity over Ajay Devgn’s ambitious project Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior, has been paramount ever since the actor announced the film. It will be directed by Om Raut and speculations and excitement about the film has increased manifold. The latest buzz in the Bollywood fraternity is that Saif Ali Khan tops the maker’s list for the role of the antagonist. Apparently, the Sacred Games actor is in talks with the producers for the film.
A leading daily reported that the Taanaji team believes that Saif will be a perfect fit for the role of Udaybhan Rathod, the Rajput officer appointed by Jai Singh, chief of the Mughal army under Aurangzeb to take care of the fort. The film is based on the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670. The battle was fought between Tanaji Malusare, a commander in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s army, and Udaybhan. The former died in the process of recapturing the Sinhagad Fort from the Mughals.

There has been no official confirmation about the casting, but if Saif gives his assent to the film then this will be the fourth time the two actors will be seen in the same film. Ajay and Saif have previously worked together in Kachche Dhaage (1999) and Omkara (2006). They have also shared film credits in LOC Kargil (2003) but didn’t share the same frame as the film had an ensemble cast. One of Saif’s most notable performances in his film career was in Omkara where he played the role of Langda Tyagi. The film was an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play Othello directed by Vishal Bharadwaj.
Saif iss currently enjoying the success of Netflix's Sacred Games, which marked his digital debut. He is also prepping for his role as a Naga Sadhu in Hunter. The actor currently has his kitty filled with a Luv Ranjan project alongside Ranbir Kapoor, a part in Neeraj Panday's film as Chanakya and is set to feature in Syed Abdul Rahim's biopic, the legendary football coach of Indian team.
