Goofiness, quirks and "shots for fun"; here’s how Akshay Kumar transformed into Tapan Das in Gold

Akshay Kumar's upcoming film Gold is grabbing all the attention ever since the film was announced. And why wouldn't it? After it's interesting teaser, posters, trailer and songs, the makers have brought out something that's a lot more fun and it will surely tickle your funny bones.

Gold is the story of winning the nation's first Gold Medal as an independent country and captures the struggle that India faced for twelve long years. Tapan Das is the coach of Indian hockey team. The video introduces us to Tapan, who is standing on the hockey court surrounded by his players. He speaks in an accent and Akshay soon clarifies that the accent is adapted because his character is a Bengali Babu.

One look, and it will make you believe that Akshay is, in fact, a new person here. To get into the skin of the character, he wears a wig that is darker, sleeker and black along with a peculiar pencil moustache. Making him stand apart even in a crowded frame is his attire - a dhoti, kurta with a jacket. Like the appearance wasn't enough, the actor has gone a step ahead and adapted a new accent and an ambling walk even in intense situations.

Director Reema Kagti describes Tapan as a "controversial, alcoholic, unpopular and argumentative". A glimpse at each of these character traits can be found in the trailer itself. Now, that makes the wait more interesting. If a trailer can pack in so much, we wonder what the film will showcase.

Akshay is a prankster and it is no secret. Gold, too, was no different. His co-stars, Vineet Kumar Singh and Kunal Kapoor share a few instances. Kunal calls him "goofy" and "physically active actor" who is always ready to 'run, roll, flip and slip' when needed (also when not needed, just for "fun!"). Vineet says "there's always someone who will be pranked". Well, there's a reason he is called Khiladi Kumar. "He knows his game well", adds the director.
