Rishi Kapoor has always been critical of Ranbir Kapoor and his choice of films. He questioned his son’s choice when his films like Jagga Jasoos and Bombay Velvet did not fare well and he received a lot of flak for it. However, Rishi has also been heaping praises on Ranbir for his latest flick Sanju that is creating records at the box office. In an interview given to a leading entertainment portal, Rishi spoke about Ranbir’s choice of films and the fact that he does not interfere in her son’s career.
Rishi was asked that since he has a lot of concern for his son’s career, is Ranbir finally taking up the projects that Rishi would like to see him in. To this Rishi replied, “There's no actor in the world who has a hundred percent record. You learn by experiences. You'll fall, you'll get up, you'll understand that this is what not to do, and this is what is to be done. I don't interfere in Ranbir's career. He does what he wants. It needs a lot of balls to do this kind of character.”

Talking about Sanju and the fact that many people were skeptical about the film, Rishi said, “I mean everybody said ki what is Ranbir doing and again it's going to go down the drain and Ranbir is finished and this and that. They all said that. I said that he'll learn from his mistakes. I mean I've seen that boy coming to the house and not eating, then working out and putting on weight for the bulked up Sanju and then losing it all for the lanky one. And that boy has worked really hard for the film. People are not really understanding the amount of labour that is gone as an actor in the film.”
Ranbir has been reaping accolades and critical acclaim for his portrayal of Sanjay Dutt in his biopic Sanju that is directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The film is nearing the Rs 300 crore club and become one of the highest grossing films of all times. Also, Ranbir has managed to impress his father with his performance in the film after getting quite a lot of heat from him for his recent debacles in the form of Bombay Velvet and Jagga Jasoos.
