Rajkummar Rao is gearing up for the release of Fanney Khan, with Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, apart from starring in Stree alongside Shraddha Kapoor. He has got his hands full with some more interesting films. Currently, he is wrapping work on Ekta Kapoor's Mental Hai Kya and is yet to start Made in China with Mouni Roy next. He also has a Hansal Mehta film with Patralekhaa, post which he will move to shoot another film with Kangana, titled Imli, directed by Anurag Basu. All this while he's currently shooting for a few scenes in Sonam Kapoor-starrer Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga.
While the audience and critics cannot stop raving about Rajkummar’s acting chops, the actor himself too is in a happy space and believes that content makes you a star and not a lead role in any film. During the promotional interviews for Fanney Khan, the actor said, "I believe that content is the only thing that works. For me choosing a film like Fanney Khan or Stree, is all about the story. I do not consider if I am offered the lead role or not but I only say yes to a film if I believe in the story."
On being asked about his move from parallel cinema to commercial, he added that the shift was "organic" and not because commercial or popcorn cinema, as they call it, was an easy call. "Films like Shahid or Omerta have also been praised widely. I still get a lot of appreciation for a film like Shahid despite knowing it from the start that such films only cater to a niche audience. For me, choosing the story is more important than it belonging to the parallel or commercial genre. As an artist, I want both kind of films to work well at the box-office."
He further talked about his desire to act in an action-film. When prodded if people see him just as an dramatic actor, he says, "Nobody thought I could make them laugh until Bareilly Ki Barfi. I certainly believe that just one film will change that perception and I would love to explore action cinema if the right script comes along."
Since action films require a lot of body transformation, the Newton star is all prepped up to undergo intensive training and physical training it if he has to. "Like Omerta and Trapped, if I need to be in a particular shape for an action film; I will perhaps make 8-pack abs too," quipped the actor.
Need we mention we are eagerly looking forward to witnessing Rajkummar's magic on screen with his interesting line-up.
